This video shows a mask cut out of myself floating in the air added with the background provided by my teacher.
This was was done by editing in a sequence of jumps from a raw 20 minute video. Then I used ultra key plus mask to cut the outline of every frame then use matte generated the shadow, transparency and highlight of the green screen.
Although I used a modern software with various tools to create the piece, the only focus on the cuts of the jumps. The inspiration that got me to create this came from a short film from the 50s called Neighbours by Norman McLaren. The plot consists two men fighting to the death over a grown healthy flower to determine which one owns it first. Moreover, what even intrigues me about the film is the amount pictures taken (most of which included the best jump cuts known to man) within the process and I imagine how Norman had to make sure everything has meet its accuracy. This video on YouTube shows it all.
